Spider Webs

I love it when the spiders take the liberty of decorating my car and yard for Halloween. That's so sad that even the spiders know I will not get around to doing it. I just hope they clean up after themselves too! Actually we are planning on carving pumpkins tonight, so the spiders did jump the gun a bit! :) Emilia woke up with quite the nasty cough last night, so we had a fun morning at the pediatritian's office. So I paid for a visit for them to tell me push fluids and bring her back if she runs a fever for more than 3-5 days. She also had fluid in her ears, but again, they didn't want to do anything because they were not infected. SO... basically we spent the morning in the peds office just to expose her to the 5 kids with pink eye sitting out in the waiting room with us! Luckily she touched nothing... we even brought her own books to look at, so we should be good! I am almost done with my 2nd mid term paper, just in time to complete the power point project that is due next week. It will be nice to have most of December off before spring semester, and I am sure Emilia would like to see her mom without her laptop :)! Chris took some vacation days this week and we have been such bums, which has been really nice. He had some meetings he had to attend today, but he's off again tomorrow, so if Emilia is feeling up to it, I think we are going furniture shopping. I have been looking for a new kitchen table for over a year now, but still can't find the right one. We'll see...

weekend fun

Well I asked for it... I have been assigned as transport nurse several weekends in a row, and have been frustrated that we did not need to go out. So when I went to work Saturday I left my things in the car hoping that this would jinx me into needing them... payback time! I was in the middle of report at 7am and the charge nurse came in to tell me I was going out on transport. I was told the baby was stable on room air and only had a peripheral IV... simple enough. By the time I got to the transferring facility... within 45 minutes of the call, the baby was having central lines placed and being placed on a ventilator...little bit more challenging transport, but luckily things went smoothly. Then when I got back to our facility and gave report to the nurse assuming care, I found out we were getting twins, so I got to go to that delivery... I ended up not leaving work until after 9pm. So Sunday I kept my mouth shut and took my transport clothes in with me! It was a quiet day! This morning my mom picked Emilia up and took her shopping to pick out a new toy, then they were going back to my mom's house for lunch and a nap. This gives me a chance to work on my paper and then I will go get her when she wakes up. One of my friends from high school is coming over tonight for dinner, so that will be fun, and Emilia absolutely loves her.

Freedom

Drum roll please... I have completed my paper! All 18 pages! So now I have to turn it in Friday, and my instructor will grade it, then return it to me to submit at the end of the semester with the other half I will be adding on, but the second part is not nearly as difficult. Now I am beginning a paper for my other class that is due next week, but is much more fun to write. Its for my cultural diversity class, and I am writing on the culture of cancer survivors, so I am interviewing my Aunt Tammy for a part of the paper. Which basically means I get to go to breakfast with her, and ask her all sorts of questions, so it should be fun! I can't wait for this semester to be over, though, just for a little break! Chris took Emilia to our church's annual high school auction this weekend. It's the high school I went to and the church we still attend. They had a great time, but Chris made the mistake of buying a huge thing of pumpkin cookies, and now there are only two left! I ate them all the past two days while I was working on my paper! Emilia also got a cute stuffed animal so she was excited. I got permission from Matthew's parents to post a photo of him. He's back home and doing well. All the NICU nurses miss him and his wonderful parents, but are very happy to see them home and doing so great! And I am sure his puppy loves having a snuggle buddy!

Busy

No excuse of not posting except this has been a busy week. Highlights: Lily turned 2 and the little boy I referred to being in the hospital is home again, so a great week! I've just been working on my paper every free minute, but an end is in sight... 8 pages down, 10-12 to go! Heres photos of Lily's party!

Pumpkin Patch

Yesterday was Emilia's preschools' trip to the pumpkin patch and Chris and I went as chaperons. Emilia was so funny when we took the hay ride out to the field to pick out her own pumpkin. I kept asking her, "how about this one?" and she would say "NO! It's dirty Mama!" Finally Chris cleaned one off and she "found it"... a nice clean pumpkin. She is so my child! There was so much to do there, but she faded fast. We left there at 2pm and she was asleep before we even got out of the parking lot. My nephews, Garrett and Hudson both go to preschool there also so they rode with us, and the ride home was so quiet with them all asleep. They all had fun, though, and each came home with a shiny clean pumpkin! Chris decided last night that since the weather was so nice, we needed to do hit golf balls so he could try out his new set of clubs. My sister, Heather, and her husband and kids went with us. Her husband is really good at golf, and has already taught my 7 year old niece how to play... she is actually really good! This was Emilia's 1st time to the driving range, and she seemed to like being able to hit balls with what she called a "golf stick." Once she found the sandpit nearby, her interest in golfing quickly faded!

Answered prayers

I just got an update on the little boy I mentioned being back in the hospital. He is off the ventilator and doing much better! Hopefully he will be back to his old fiesty self soon enough.

Blessed

I have to admit that I panicked a bit when I hopped online yesterday to see how the market and my 401k were doing... not good. Then this morning I received an email from a family that I cared for in the NICU. Their little guy went home about a month ago but we have stayed in touch. He was readmitted to the hospital last night for breathing difficulty... he had been sent home on oxygen. This news came after I learned this weekend that another little girl I cared for is back in the hospital on a ventilator, and another little baby girl, Sofia miller (http://www.babymiller08.blogspot.com), has had a possible reherniation of her diaphragmatic hernia. All that to say I am sure these families could care less what the stock market was doing yesterday and hearing these things put everything in perspective for me. Right now I just feel so blessed for having such a healthy child, a wonderful husband, a home, a great job... so many thing that are easy to take for granted. Please keep these families and the staff caring for these little ones in your thoughts and prayers... may God pour his blessings into the lives of these families.

Monday

I cannot believe it is Monday again. This weekend flew by, probably because I only worked Sunday. The NICU is down to 15 babies with at least 3 more going home this week, so they are cancelling nurses. I volunteered to be cancelled so I could have some time to work on my paper that is due in 2 weeks. Saturday evening we went to Chris's sister's house for dinner. His brother, Danny's fiance's parents came in town to meet Danny's parents. Her family was really nice and they were so cute with Emilia... they are looking very forward to their first grand baby! Emilia and I had the laziest day on Friday. We got up at 730 because my nephew, Ty, came over before school so I could paint his face for spirit day at school. Then Heather and Hudson stopped by and we all went for breakfast at Atlanta bread. It was so nice out that we decided to sit outside, which the kids loved because they could run around the outside patio. After breakfast we headed to Borders and picked out a few books. I also found her a sock puppet making kit, which she was very excited about. We finally headed home in time for lunch. After lunch, Emilia and I both laid down for a nice little nap. We used to nap together a lot when I worked night shift, but every since I began working days, I use her nap time to get things done around the house. Napping was nice for a change! This week Chris actually has a couple days off, so hopefully I will be productive with my paper today and have a few days to play at the end of the week. I am getting really frustrated though because I am waiting on a few articles that I need for my paper, and I have requested them 3 times now. If they don't come in the next few days, I will have to venture downtown to the Health Science Library and try to find them there. Usually you can just request them online from your school and they email them to you but obviously that's not working! Anyway off to do homework!
